How To Get Your Skin Spring/ Summer Ready!

By Unknown - May 25, 2016

By this point of the year I'm pretty fed up of the cold, rainy, English weather and am longing for the sun to make an appearance.  For me, the Spring/ summer season is so exciting, wanting to trade in my comfy winter wear for bright, more fashionable clothing and of course attempting to get a tan!

However, in England our spring/ summer days can never be too promising, while we have had some incredibly beautiful warm days we also have had some grey and rainy days ( a bit like today).

Now this constant change in temperature can cause a lot of problems for our skin! I want to raise the importance of looking after our skin and why skincare is for everyone, on behalf of Dollar shave club (check out their website, who have got some really great tips and tricks on many topics on their blog which you should all definitely check out - click here  they also have some products that you males should also check out! -products

Around this time of the year or skin starts to change, it can become dry, sensitive, oily or maybe a little bit more blemish prone. For us girls, we tend to wear slightly more revealing clothes which means its 100% leg shaving season ( if thats what you choose to do..) and sometimes with the mixture of the warm weather this can lead to razor burn or dryness.

So heres some of my tips and tricks, along with some advice from Dollar Shave Club on how to keep all of these changes under control, in order to make everyone feel a lot more confident in the changing seasons:

1) My first and most important tip is to maintain a skincare routine! I strongly believe that is goes for everyone, its just as important for you men to look after your skin as it is for girls- its not just a female thing... after all we all have skin, that has pores, prone to blemishes and sun damage.

Your skincare routine doesn't have to be extensive i'd say theres a basic 3 or 4 items that everyone should be using.
Firstly, a facial cleanser- this can be tailored to any of your skin concerns but if you do nothing else at least wash!
Secondly, i would advise for you to be using a toner or exfoliator.  Toners are believed to return your skin to the right pH level that sometimes cleansers can change, they also minimise pores and add an extra layer of protection to your skin! And exfoliators are so important for everyone, it gets rid of the layer of dead skin and really rejuvinates your skin. This is a super important step for anyone who is excessively dry or oily.

Lastly, moisturising!  You should be moisturising your whole body, however using a moisturiser is an important step of keeping those wrinkles aways and you should start at a young age for this to be effective , although its never too late. The most important parts to moisturise is your face, neck and chest and your hands - all places that show the first signs of ageing!

While its obvious that dry skin needs to be moisturised, those who become oily during this changing season or are naturally oily tend to shy away from this key task.
Using a moisturiser does not make your skin more oily or make you get more blemishes. The oil your face naturally produces is usually down to hormones and its not the same oils to be hydrating. In fact if you don't use a moisturiser on oily skin, your problem only gets worse. By cleansing your skin your are stripping all of those natural oils, in turn, your body works harder to start the cycle of creating more oils. If you moisturise straight after cleaning your immediately replacing those natural oils your body makes with something that is good and hydrating for your body! Therefore, your face will naturally make less natural oil! IF you are oily i recommend getting an oil free moisturiser as this will make you feel more comfortable though out the day.

2) My second most important skincare tip is to stay hydrated from within, drink the recommended amount of water a day and you will start noticing in no time the difference with in your skin, you'll be more radiant and your skin with be more of a normal combination of dryness and oils.

Dealing with sun damage

Doesn't matter what time of the year it is sun damage can still rear its ugly head,  sun damage can lead to many serious health problems so its important we take this seriously.

Dollar shave club has raised awareness that "even on a cloudy day 80% of the suns emitted UV rays will reach your skin" Therefore they recommend wearing sun block on a daily basis- make this become part of your daily skincare routine.

Think about what moisturiser your using,  Perhaps get one with an SPF in it! If you intend on wearing makeup you can also get foundations with SPF in but don't layer two SPFs together as the protection actually becomes less.

What  to do if you suffer with sensitive skin.

A change in season can make your skin a little bit more sensitive so there are many things to avoid doing to stop upsetting your skin.

1) don't use fragrance products, staying clear from harsh chemicals and strong fragrances in your soaps, makeup and deodorants is super important for people with sensitive skin.

2)Don't over wash - stripping aways those natural oils can irritate you if you have sensitive skin

3) stay hydrated

4) be protected from the sun -  i always get slightly irritated skin when its warm so i tend to layer up when i can or use an spf.

5) Don't take super hot baths or showers, again this melts away those oils and leaves your skin dry , red and irritated.

How to avoid razor burn
Previously shaving my legs when it's warm weather has been a little bit of a nightmare, the heats left my skin a little irritated and by shaving it often left me with red legs for a good hour or so after- very annoying !

However, i found to great tricks that has worked wonders;
  • Using an oil before and after stops my legs feeling nasty and leaves them feeling luxurious and smooth!
  • In replacement for a shaving cream using a hair conditioner leaves my skin feeling a lot more nourished when shaving!
Another tip that can suit both men and females is making sure your not using a blunt razor!

I hope all these tips and tricks are of help and don't forget to check out Dollar shave club's blog for more information, they have great customer service and knowledge, so are always willing to answer any questions you guys may have.
